Cajamarca, a city in Northern Peru, is known as the capital of
the Peruvian Carnival, due to the importance and scope its carnival has
achieved in all these years. On the first
week of February begins the colorful “Carnaval de Cajamarca,” showing out rich cultural traditions.
The carnival features parades, music, dancers on national costumes, and the traditional “unshas” (trees decorated with gifts and serpentines). During the month-long cultural festivity, traditional dishes are served, such as the “puchero” and “sancochado” to locals and visitors.
